Our Principles

Jubilee Principles of
Christian Community Development

1. "As you cannot do what you want, want what you can do." (Leonardo daVinci) Combine our own distinctive competences and those of our Christian collaborators with what is most needed.

4. It’s time to get local and look at ourselves and the poor themselves for solutions. Governments are failing and will fail more as we experience hard times with waves of inflation. . This is an ideal opportunity for us Christians to step up to the plate.

2. Encourage people to discover their own God-given gifts and to develop these strengths. Ask each person what is the one thing you love to do...that you are really good at. Ask them to identify relationships that are assests that can be used to help them.

5. Use ABCD - Asset Based Community Development to look for assets in a community that can be developed to benefit those in need. To effectively solve problems, we need to see reality as it is…not as we wish it would be. Sometimes, examining what is false and then developing strategies to exploit or correct the falseness can be effective.

3. The best outcomes can be achieved by helping people in need to do the most they can for themselves and each other. We will have done our very best when the person helped says, “You have helped me do it myself.”

6. Christians need to come along side those who are struggling...but need to do so with as much reciprocity as possible...not from a superior/inferior point of view.

7. We will be amazed at how much can be accomplished if we make a real effort to see that the other person gets the credit.

8. Ask what Christian collaborators can do and be a catalyst to help them with wisdom, direct help, and resources, and make every effort to see that they get the credit.

9. Use CARROTS (incentives) generously.

10. Get going, commit for life… add partners and collaborators…accept new leaders…lead when necessary and follow when necessary.
